How to download, install and activate Windows 10 Pro
Your Windows 10 Pro download comes from Microsoft at microsoft.com/software-download/windows10, as the Media Creation Tool or a plain ISO. Install it, then open Settings, Update and Security, Activation and enter the key from your order email. Entering a key on a PC already running Windows 10, or turning Home into Pro, takes ten minutes. A clean install takes about an hour.

Before you start
Read this before you install. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, so there are no more security updates unless the PC is enrolled in the paid Extended Security Updates program. Windows 10 Pro still suits a PC that fails the Windows 11 hardware check, a machine tied to old software or drivers, and an offline workstation.
- Your key is in the order email. It arrives in minutes with the download link, and also sits in your account here.
- The edition has to match. A Pro key activates Windows 10 Pro only. A Pro key on a Home install gives 0xC004F050.

- Back up first, and find a USB stick. A clean install erases the drive and needs an empty 8 GB stick.

Download Windows 10 Pro from Microsoft
There is one correct source for the Windows 10 Pro download, and it is Microsoft. That page carries the Media Creation Tool, which upgrades the PC you run it on or writes a bootable USB stick, and a plain ISO. We never send people to third-party mirrors.
- Open the Microsoft page. Nothing on it asks for a product key.
- Choose your route. The tool builds media or upgrades this PC. The ISO is there if you want the file.
- Run the tool and accept the terms. Pick Upgrade this PC now, or Create installation media for another PC.
- Keep the recommended options. One image holds Home and Pro, so your key decides the edition.
- Let the download finish. Keep the PC awake until the media is ready.
If the PC already runs Windows 10 and you only need to enter a key, skip to Step 3.
Install Windows 10 Pro
This depends on where you start. On a PC already running Windows 10 Home you install nothing: the key changes edition in place and your files stay put. On an empty drive, boot the USB stick.
- Boot from the USB stick. Restart and tap the boot menu key, usually F12, F9 or Esc.
- Pick language and keyboard, then Install now. The defaults suit most people.
- Choose I do not have a product key. Deliberate. The key goes in once Windows is running.
- Select Windows 10 Pro in the edition list. The step people get wrong. Choosing Home with a Pro key causes 0xC004F050.
- Choose Upgrade or Custom. Upgrade keeps files and apps. Custom wipes the partition you select.
- Wait out the restarts. Two or three reboots, then region and an account.
A fresh install often runs unactivated at first, with a watermark. Step 3 clears it.
Activate Windows 10 Pro with your key
Windows 10 activation sits in the older Settings layout, under Update and Security rather than System. Get the PC online first.
- Open Settings. Press the Windows key and I together.
- Go to Update and Security, then Activation. The page shows your edition and activation state.
- Click Change product key. On a PC never activated before you may see Activate instead.
- Paste the 25-character key. Copy it from the order email. Dashes are added for you.
- Click Next, then Activate. Allow a minute. A Home PC changes edition to Pro and restarts once.
- Read the result. It should say Windows is activated with a digital license.

Check that it worked
Two minutes of checking now saves a support call later.
- The edition line says Windows 10 Pro. If it still says Home, the key entry changed nothing. Try Change product key again.
- Activation reads activated. With a digital license, or one linked to your Microsoft account.
- The desktop watermark is gone. The Activate Windows text disappears, sometimes after a restart.
- Personalization is usable again. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize: the theme options work.

0xC004F050: the product key is not valid
The key does not match the installed edition, which nearly always means a Pro key on a Home install. Check the edition line in Settings, Update and Security, Activation. If it says Home, click Change product key and enter the Pro key there: Windows changes edition in place. Mid-install, restart the installer and pick Windows 10 Pro. One mistyped character does the same, so paste from the order email.
0xC004C003: the server says the key is in use
The key has already been activated elsewhere, or it has been blocked. Nothing on the PC fixes this, and reinstalling will not help. Check that you copied the key exactly, with no character missing at the end, then email contact@officegsm.com with your order number. We look it up and send a replacement, and if we cannot get you activated the 180-day guarantee means your money back.
0xC004F074: Windows cannot reach the activation servers
A connection problem rather than a key problem. Confirm the PC is online, then check the date, time and time zone, because a clock that is days out will break the secure handshake. Pause any VPN or proxy and try again. Leftover KMS settings from a company network cause this too. If it persists, run slui 4 and activate by telephone.
0xC004F213: no product key found after a hardware change
Windows lost its license, usually after a motherboard swap, a drive clone or a firmware update. Open Activation, run Troubleshoot, choose I changed hardware on this device recently, and sign in with the Microsoft account the license was tied to. If it was never linked to an account, enter the key again with Change product key. If the Media Creation Tool fails with 0x80072F8F, fix the system clock first.

Can I still download Windows 10 Pro now that support has ended?
Yes. End of support means Microsoft stopped issuing security updates on October 14, 2025, not that the software was withdrawn. The download page is still up, the Media Creation Tool still builds installation media, and the activation servers still accept retail keys. What you give up is the monthly patching, unless the PC is enrolled in Extended Security Updates. People stay on Windows 10 Pro for good reasons, usually hardware that Windows 11 will not accept, or software and drivers that only ever ran here.
Will my Windows 10 Pro key activate Windows 11 Pro?
Yes, on hardware that meets the Windows 11 requirements. A Windows 10 Pro key activates Windows 11 Pro, so buying now does not shut the door on moving later. You download Windows 11 from Microsoft, install it over the top, and enter the same key in Settings, System, Activation. Do I lose my files going from Windows 10 Home to Pro?
No. Entering a Pro key on a Home install is an edition change, not a reinstall. Windows swaps the edition in place, restarts once, and your files, programs, settings and accounts are all still there afterwards. It normally takes under ten minutes. What you gain is the Pro feature set: BitLocker drive encryption, Remote Desktop hosting, Hyper-V and the option to join a domain. We still suggest a quick backup first, as we would before any change of this kind.
Is this a 32-bit or a 64-bit Windows 10 Pro license?
One key covers both. Windows 10 Pro is licensed by edition rather than by architecture, so the same key works on the 32-bit build and the 64-bit build. Choose 64-bit unless the PC has under 4 GB of memory, or you depend on an old 32-bit driver.
