How to download, install and activate Windows 11 Pro
Your Windows 11 Pro download comes from Microsoft at microsoft.com/software-download/windows11, as the Installation Assistant, Media Creation Tool or ISO. Install it, then open Settings, System, Activation and enter your key. On a PC already running Windows 11 Home, nothing needs downloading: the same key turns Home into Pro in ten minutes.

Five minutes of checking saves an hour later.
- Check the hardware. Microsoft PC Health Check app gives a yes or no and names what failed.

Download Windows 11 from Microsoft
One Microsoft page holds all three ways to get Windows 11.
- Open the official download page. Go to microsoft.com/software-download/windows11. Installers from other sites are often modified and refuse genuine keys.
- On Windows 10, pick Installation Assistant. It upgrades the PC you are using and keeps your files and programs.
- For a USB installer, pick the Media Creation Tool. Create Windows 11 Installation Media writes a bootable installer to a spare USB drive of 8 GB or more, erasing it.
- For a disk image, pick the ISO. Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices gives one file to mount or write yourself. A Windows 11 ISO holds Home and Pro, and your key picks the edition.
The Windows 11 ISO and the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool are x64 only. ARM and Snapdragon devices need a different build, so contact us first.
Install or upgrade to Windows 11 Pro
Two paths, one of which applies. If About already reads Windows 11 Pro, go to Step 3.
Path A: upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro in place
- Open Activation on Windows 11 Home. Settings, System, Activation. No download or USB drive is involved.
- Choose Upgrade your edition of Windows. Click Change product key, enter the key from your order email, and Windows switches edition and restarts.
- Sign back in as Windows 11 Pro. Files, programs and accounts are untouched, and BitLocker, Hyper-V and group policy appear.
Path B: clean install from a USB drive
- Back up first. This erases the drive you select, so copy your files elsewhere first.
- Build the USB installer. Run the Media Creation Tool, keep the recommended language, choose USB flash drive. Expect 20 to 40 minutes.
- Boot from the USB drive. Restart with the drive plugged in, pressing the boot menu key shown as the logo appears, often F12, F11 or Esc.
- Select Windows 11 Pro in setup. Click Install now, then enter your key or click I do not have a product key. On the edition list, choose Windows 11 Pro.
- Run a custom install. Choose Custom: Install Windows only, pick the drive to erase, then answer the setup questions.
Coming from Windows 10 Pro? Use the Installation Assistant: it keeps your files, and that license upgrades to Windows 11 Pro free if the hardware qualifies.
Activate Windows 11 Pro with your key
The short part, and the same after an edition change or a clean install.
- Open the activation page. Settings, System, Activation handles both cases.
- Enter your Windows 11 Pro product key. Expand Activation state, click Change product key, type the 25 character key from your order email, then Next.
- Let Windows reach the activation servers. It takes a few seconds online. A key cannot be checked offline, so connect the PC first.
- Link the license to your Microsoft account. Sign in on the same page. Windows stores a digital license against that account, so the Activation troubleshooter can restore it after a hardware change.

Check that it worked
Go back to Settings, System, Activation. These are the signs it worked.
- Activation state says Active. Expanding it reads Windows is activated with a digital license, linked to your Microsoft account if you signed in.
- The edition reads Windows 11 Pro under Settings, System, About, with BitLocker and Hyper-V available.
- The watermark is gone and wallpaper, colors and themes can be changed again.
Common errors and how to fix them
Nearly every activation problem we see is one of these five.
0xC004F050: the product key is not valid
The key does not match the edition it was typed into, usually a Pro key entered in Home through the plain Change product key box instead of Upgrade your edition of Windows. Install every pending update, restart and try again, since Home needs current servicing files before it changes edition. If it still refuses, or you see 0x803FA067, use the generic Pro upgrade key from your order email, then enter your own key.
0xC004C003: the activation server says the key is blocked
The server will not take the key, normally because it has already been used on another computer. Nothing on the PC fixes this, and reinstalling Windows will not help either. Check that you copied the key exactly as it appears in your order email, then email contact@officegsm.com with your order number. We look it up and send a replacement, and if we cannot get you activated, the 180-day guarantee means your money back.
0xC004F074: Windows cannot reach the activation servers
The connection is the problem here rather than the key. Confirm the PC is online, then check the date, time and time zone, because a clock that is days out breaks the secure handshake. Pause any VPN or proxy and try Activate again. Leftover KMS settings from a company network cause this too. If it keeps failing, press Windows key and R, type slui 4 and activate by phone instead.
0xC004C008: the key is already in use on another device
One key activates one PC, so this appears when the same key is entered on a second machine, or when major hardware changed and Windows sees a new computer. On the same PC after a motherboard swap, open Settings, System, Activation, run the Activation troubleshooter, choose I changed hardware on this device recently, and sign in with the Microsoft account the license was linked to. A genuinely second computer needs its own key.
This PC cannot run Windows 11 during setup
Setup checks TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, the processor model and storage, and stops at the first failure, so run Microsoft PC Health Check to see which one. TPM and Secure Boot are the usual answer and are normally just switched off: restart, press the firmware key on the logo screen, often Del, F2 or F10, turn on fTPM or PTT, enable Secure Boot, and set the drive mode to UEFI.

Where is the safe Windows 11 Pro download?
Microsoft publishes Windows 11 at microsoft.com/software-download/windows11, the only page we point customers to. It offers the Installation Assistant for upgrading the PC you are on, the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool for a bootable USB installer, and the ISO for a disk image. All three are free and install the same Windows. There is no separate Pro installer, because one image carries Home and Pro and your product key selects the edition. Avoid sites offering a pre-activated Windows 11 Pro download, since those builds reject genuine keys and carry malware.
How do I upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro without reinstalling?
Entirely from Settings, in about ten minutes, with no download at all. Open Settings, System, Activation, expand Upgrade your edition of Windows, click Change product key and enter your Pro key. Windows verifies it, switches the edition and restarts once. Nothing is erased: documents, programs, printers and user accounts stay as they were, and afterwards the About page reads Windows 11 Pro. That in place Windows 11 Pro upgrade is much quicker than a reinstall. If Home rejects the key with 0xC004F050, install every pending update, restart and try once more.
Does a Windows 10 Pro PC get Windows 11 Pro for free?
Yes, if the hardware qualifies. A PC with an activated Windows 10 Pro license upgrades to Windows 11 Pro at no cost, and the digital license carries over on its own. Run Microsoft PC Health Check first to confirm the processor, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements are met, then run the Installation Assistant from Microsoft download page. It keeps your files and programs and takes about an hour. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, so this also returns the PC to a version that still receives security updates.
Can I install Windows 11 without a product key?
You can. During a clean install, click I do not have a product key and setup continues, but pick Windows 11 Pro from the edition list so the edition matches the key you use later. Windows then runs unactivated: a watermark sits in the corner, personalization settings are greyed out and reminders appear, though security updates still arrive. To activate Windows 11 Pro afterwards, open Settings, System, Activation, click Change product key and enter your key. Typing the key during setup instead usually activates the PC before you reach the desktop.
Does one key work on more than one PC?
Each Windows 11 Pro product key activates one PC at a time, so several computers need a key each, and a key entered on a second machine returns 0xC004C008 or 0xC004C003. Changing parts inside the same PC is fine, although replacing the motherboard counts as a new computer, which is why we ask everyone to sign in with a Microsoft account on the Activation page. The troubleshooter then moves the license to the rebuilt hardware. If a key stops working and we cannot fix it, our guarantee covers a replacement or refund.
