How to download, install and activate Microsoft Visio 2024 Professional
Your Microsoft Visio 2024 download is the link in the OfficeGSM order email that carries your key, and it installs Visio Professional on Windows 10 or 11. Before you start
Visio 2024 Professional is a single-app volume license. Two of these checks stop the install errors we see most.
- Visio has to match your Office bit version. A 64-bit Office needs 64-bit Visio. Setup stops rather than mixing them.
- Built to sit beside Office 2024. See our Office 2024 Professional Plus guide if you are installing both.
- Keeping Microsoft 365 on the same PC? Contact us before you install. The order matters and the two share an update engine.
- Your key is not redeemed at setup.office.com. It goes into Visio, under File, Account.
- Windows 10 or 11 only. Visio has no Mac version, and support runs to October 9, 2029.

Download Microsoft Visio 2024 Professional
Two supported routes, both from Microsoft. Use the first unless you look after several machines.
- Open the link in your order email. Your Microsoft Visio 2024 download link arrives beside the 25-character key, within minutes of paying.
- Or use the Office Deployment Tool. Download the tool from Microsoft, add a configuration.xml with the Product ID VisioPro2024Volume, then run setup.exe /configure configuration.xml. Ask and we send the file ready to use.
- Ignore setup.office.com. This is a volume license. Nothing is redeemed with a Microsoft account, and a key typed there gets refused.
- Pick the bit version your Office already uses. Open any Office app, then File, Account, About. A 64-bit Office needs 64-bit Visio, and setup refuses the mix.

Install Visio 2024 on Windows 10 or 11
A plain Click-to-Run install with nothing to configure and no restart afterwards.
- Close Word, Excel and Outlook. Visio shares its installer engine with Office, and setup stops if another Office app is holding files open.
- Run the installer and approve the Windows prompt. There is nothing to choose, so the window that opens is only a progress bar.
- Allow fifteen to twenty-five minutes. Visio carries a large stencil and template library, so it takes a little longer than a plain Office app.
- Open Visio once and accept the terms. You land on the template gallery. Nothing is activated yet at this point.
Diagrams made in Visio 2021 or 2019 open in Visio 2024 without converting, and a file saved back keeps the .vsdx format the older version reads.
Activate Visio 2024 with your product key
Under a minute, and it happens inside Visio rather than on a website.
- In Visio, click File, then Account. Account sits at the foot of the left-hand column, with the product name and the license state on it.
- Click Change Product Key. If the page offers only Sign in, close that dialog. A Microsoft account does not activate this key.
- Enter the 25-character key from your order email. Paste it if you can. Dashes are filled in for you and capitals do not matter.
- Click Activate, then restart Visio. The key is checked with Microsoft and confirmed on screen. Reopening refreshes the Account page.

Check that it worked
Go back to File, Account in Visio. Three things tell you the license landed.
- Product Activated appears under the product name. No countdown and no Buy now button.
- The product line names Visio Professional 2024. If it says Standard, the wrong build was installed.
- The data-linked templates are there. Check the Data tab for Link Data to Shapes, which Standard does not have.
Common errors and how to fix them
Five messages cover nearly every Visio 2024 ticket we open, and each has a fix you can do yourself.
0xC004C020: the activation limit for this key has been reached
Online activation has been turned down and the key needs telephone activation, which is a normal route for a volume key rather than a sign of a bad one. Visio opens a phone wizard: choose your country, call the automated Microsoft line, read out the Installation ID and type in the Confirmation ID you are given. 30015-25 or 30038-25: an existing Office is blocking the install
Setup has found an Office installation it cannot sit beside, most often a Microsoft 365 trial that shipped with the PC, or a 32-bit Office when you are installing 64-bit Visio. Remove or match the other one, restart, then run the installer again. Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant clears leftovers that will not uninstall. Tell us what the machine already has and we will say what needs to change.
Setup says a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Office is already installed
Visio has to match the bit version of the Office on that PC, and the installer stops rather than creating a mix that will not run. Check under File, Account, About in any Office app, then install the matching Visio build. If you would rather move Office to 64-bit instead, uninstall it first and reinstall the 64-bit build, and ask us for the configuration file if that sounds like work.

Visio installed but the key never went in, or it went into a different app. Click File, Account, Change Product Key and enter the key from your order email again. If the strip is still there after a restart, use Update Options, Update Now on the same page and reopen Visio. A PC that has been offline for weeks shows this until it reaches Microsoft once.
0xC004C060 or the product key you entered is not valid
Usually the key going into the wrong app, or one mistyped character. This key activates Visio Professional 2024 and nothing else, so it is refused in Word, in Visio Standard and in an older Visio. Read it back against the order email character by character. If it matches and Visio still refuses it, send us your order number: we check the key, replace it, or refund you under the 180-day guarantee.

In practice that means you can connect shapes to a live data source such as an Excel workbook or a SQL table and let the diagram update itself, reverse-engineer a database into an entity relationship model, and use the engineering, software and process templates that Standard leaves out. If your diagrams are flowcharts and floor plans that you draw by hand, Standard is enough. If any of them are driven by data, Professional is the one you want.
Can I install Visio 2024 next to Office 2024 or Microsoft 365?
Visio 2024 is built to sit beside Office 2024, and the two install together without trouble as long as the bit versions match. Microsoft 365 is the awkward case: it uses the same Click-to-Run engine on a different update channel, and installing Visio 2024 over it can break one or the other. Microsoft supports Visio 2024 with security updates until October 9, 2029.
